Indigenous Peoples’ Day
in Snohomish County, October 9, 2017

On September 21, 2017, marking the 10th anniversary of the United
Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the United Nations
convened to discussed and promoted the following theme, “Focusing on
People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for all on a Sustainable
Planet.”

On that day, the Prime Minister of Canada addressed the UN General
Assembly with a powerful statement of commitment to reconciliation
between Canada and its First Nations indigenous peoples, indicating
that Canada is committed to full implementation of the UN Declaration.

The Snohomish County Council’s Indigenous Day Resolution is a
first step in moving our county toward the wider goals of
celebrating Inclusion and honoring our diversity throughout
Snohomish County. Please note the Indigenous Day Resolution as
